HOLDING SPACE FOR THE HEALERS
Interested in the TL;DR?
I get it - you’ve got clients to see and notes to catch up on - no judgement.
Check out the short version here.
Includes diagnostic criteria for TL;DR Disorder, if you could use a good laugh 😁
You Hold So Much—But Where Do You Put It?
You hold space for everyone else—but who’s holding space for you? Maybe you find yourself absorbing clients’ stories, feeling them in your body even after the session ends. Or maybe the pressure to "have it all together" makes it hard to admit when you're struggling. You know how to handle stress, but that doesn’t mean you’re immune to exhaustion, anxiety, or even resentment at times. The weight of this work is real, and so is the expectation—whether internal or external—that you should be able to handle it alone. But therapists are human too, and carrying everything alone isn’t sustainable.
And then there’s everything else. The never-ending documentation, high caseloads, clients in crisis, and insurance policies that dictate care more than clinical judgment. Maybe you work in an agency where the demands are relentless, the pay is too low, and breaks are nonexistent—not just for lunch, but for the deep breaths you need after an intense session. At the end of the day, when you finally step away from your screen, you might realize you’ve spent all your energy holding space for others, leaving nothing for yourself.
The burnout that began during COVID never fully lifted, and the emotional toll of social division, injustice, and uncertainty is impossible to ignore. We’re helping clients navigate collective trauma while living through it ourselves. When the world feels like it’s on fire, how do you keep holding space for other people’s grief, fear, and uncertainty—when you may be feeling the same way?
This work is meaningful, but it’s also hard. You don’t have to muscle through it alone. Let’s create a safe space together where you can exhale, process, and reconnect with yourself—not just as a therapist, but as a person.
Therapists Need Therapy Too—Wild, Right?
Therapy with me isn’t about handing you a worksheet on self-care or reminding you to “set better boundaries.” You already know what you’d tell a client in your situation—but being an amazing therapist doesn’t make you immune to your own struggles. I’m pretty sure one of the prerequisites of being a therapist is being human, right? 😉
My job isn’t to give you the same advice you give others—it’s to create a space where you can finally hear yourself think and untangle the thoughts and emotions that have been quietly (or loudly) piling up.
We’ll figure out what actually helps—not in a cookie-cutter “best practices” way, but in a way that fits your life. Maybe that means unpacking burnout, processing the emotional weight of your work, or learning how to step away from sessions without taking your clients’ pain home. Impostor syndrome? Great! In a totally non-sarcastic way, I’m actually glad—because that means you care. Let’s work together to turn down the volume on that inner critic so you can feel confident in the impact you’re making.
Maybe it’s time to reclaim the parts of yourself that exist outside of therapy—your relationships, hobbies, or the simple joys that have taken a backseat to documentation and back-to-back sessions.
And let’s be real—you wouldn’t tell a client to “just power through” or wait until they’re in crisis before seeking support. You deserve the same care you give others. Getting therapy doesn’t mean you’re failing—it means you’re human.
And just to be clear—this isn’t some advanced clinical supervision where you’re graded on self-awareness. You don’t have to impress me with your clinical knowledge or come in with a treatment plan for yourself. You don’t have to be the therapist. You just get to be you.
So, if you’re waiting for permission to get your own support—consider this it. You don’t have to have all the answers. You don’t even have to know where to start. I’ve got you.
Your Future Self Will Thank You
Imagine waking up feeling lighter, energized, and genuinely looking forward to your day. Walking into your sessions feeling grounded and present, fully engaged with your clients without carrying their emotions home. Picture stepping away from work with a sense of clarity and balance, knowing you’ve given what you can without sacrificing yourself in the process. Feel the relief of having your own space to process, reflect, and be cared for.
Therapy won’t erase the challenges of this field, but it can help you navigate them in a way that feels fulfilling and sustainable—so you don’t have to keep running on fumes. You don’t have to wait until you’re completely depleted before prioritizing yourself. You are worthy of the same support you give others.
And let’s be honest—we therapists can be extra picky when choosing our own therapist (hand raised—I get it!) We look for someone trained in our self-diagnosed issues or an expert in that one modality we’re convinced is the key to everything. But at the end of the day, you know what matters most—the relationship. Yeah, yeah, I felt that eye-roll. 😉 But seriously, you know how much better therapy works when you truly connect with someone.
